FAQ

How often should a chimney be swept?
Once a year if you burn wood regularly. The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual inspection even if you rarely light a fire, because animals, weather and moisture do damage on their own.
What is creosote and why is it dangerous?
Creosote is the tar-like residue smoke leaves inside your flue. It is highly flammable: one hot ember can ignite it and turn your chimney into a flue fire inside your walls.
Do gas fireplaces need inspection too?
Yes. Gas burns cleaner but the venting still cracks, blocks and corrodes, and a blocked vent can push carbon monoxide back into your living room.
Why is my chimney leaking when it rains?
Usually the crown, the flashing or a missing cap. Water finds tiny openings, freezes, and widens them every winter. Caught early it is a cheap fix.
What does the $69 inspection include?
A full exam of cap, crown, flashing, flue, damper and firebox with photos of what we find, and a written quote. If we do the work, the entire $69 is credited back to you.
Do you clean up after a sweep?
Every sweep runs with drop cloths and a HEPA vacuum. If you can tell we were there by anything but a clean chimney, we did it wrong.
